Tom Ruzika, his associates, and his assistants have a long history of collaborating with major theatre, opera, and ballet dance companies. Over 30 years of stage lighting experience has given Ruzika a finely tuned eye to sculpt light and to interpret a playwright’s, director’s choreographer’s or producer’s vision into theatrical reality.
Professional associations with Tony Award winning theatrical companies such as South Coast Repertory Theatre, the Mark Taper Forum, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, the Geffen Playhouse, the Coconut Grove Playhouse, Ford’s Theatre, Reprise, and many other regional theatres has led to numerous critic’s awards. His work with the Paris Conservatoire Ballet, the Olympic Arts Dance Festival, and esteemed choreographers such as Donald McKayle, David
Allan, Michel Gervais, Penrod & Plastino, Eugene Loring, and Anthony Tudor have given Tom the pleasure of designing over 200 dance pieces. Ruzika’s early training in piano and organ has given him a sensitive ear and eye for musical productions leading him to design for Opera Santa Barbara, Reprise, Sacramento Music Theatre, Long Beach Opera, Los Angeles Civic Light Opera, Orange County Master Chorale, and many regional musical theatre companies. Ruzika has also planned and managed major pyrotechnical spectaculars, televised live events, corporate trade shows and fund raising benefits.
Tom Ruzika’s theatrical roots allow him to create dramatic, stunning, passionate, and beautiful lighting.
